Haunted Mansion
About this ride
The experience begins in a portrait gallery that slowly stretches, with the Ghost Host narrating your descent. From there, Doom Buggies carry you through 999 meticulously themed rooms — a library of floating candles, Madame Leota, a roaring ballroom with waltzing ghosts, and a spirited graveyard finale. The Disneyland version uniquely exits through an outdoor stretch of New Orleans bayou before returning inside. The 2023 expansion added a new pet cemetery queue and revamped retail shop.
Best time to ride
Hit Haunted Mansion with Multi Pass on busy days. Also excellent as a late-night ride when crowds thin — the atmosphere is even better after dark.
Insider tips
- Spin your Doom Buggy backward in the graveyard scene — the ghosts behind you are often missed.
- The stretching room portraits are worth studying carefully. Each one tells a grim little story.
- Look for the pet cemetery just outside the mansion entrance — easy to walk past.
- The Hatbox Ghost near the attic scene was restored in 2015 after being removed in 1969.
- During the holiday overlay (Oct–Jan), the entire ride is retransformed with a Nightmare Before Christmas theme.
What to know before you ride
- Darkness throughout.
- Spooky imagery including ghosts, skeletons, and a simulated graveyard.
- Eerie sound design.
- Sensitive toddlers may be genuinely frightened.

Mateo's Take
“The best Haunted Mansion in the world — longer, more atmospheric, and more surprising than any other version. Ride it in the regular season and again during the Holiday overlay if you can.”
— Mateo, Lead Disney Parks Specialist

Pirates of the Caribbean is the original Disney dark ride masterpiece — the one that set the template for everything that followed. Walt Disney himself oversaw its creation, and it opened in 1967 as the last attraction he personally supervised. You drift through moonlit bayous and into a chaotic port town under siege by buccaneers.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride is one of Disneyland's original 1955 dark rides, and it survives as the last of its kind — Disney World replaced theirs with Winnie the Pooh decades ago, making this the only Mr. Toad's Wild Ride left on earth.
