Soarin' Around the World
About this ride
Guests board hang-glider-style gondolas that lift in rows to face a 180-degree wraparound dome screen displaying sweeping aerial footage shot around the globe. Wind effects, gentle tilting, and precisely timed scent releases complete the sensory illusion. The film visits the Great Wall of China, Eiffel Tower, Matterhorn, Iguazu Falls, Taj Mahal, Sydney Harbour, and Disneyland itself in the finale.
Best time to ride
Multi Pass on busy days — one of DCA's highest-demand attractions. Or ride in the last 30 minutes before park close when waits often shorten.
Insider tips
- Request row A or B (the top two gondola rows) for an unobstructed view — lower rows may see feet dangling from above.
- The scent effects are subtle but real — the pine forest and ocean moments are particularly effective.
- The finale over Disneyland at night, with fireworks going off, earns applause from first-timers.
- Guests with a fear of heights should be aware that gondolas lift 45 feet off the ground and your feet dangle freely.
- The original California-focused version was beloved — the Around the World expansion added global destinations.
What to know before you ride
- Gondolas lift 45 feet off the floor with feet dangling freely — can alarm guests with fear of heights.
- The large screen and movement can cause mild motion disorientation for some guests.

Mateo's Take
“One of the most elegant and universally pleasing rides in any Disney park. The combination of movement, scent, and spectacular footage creates a sensation of actual flight that is genuinely hard to replicate elsewhere. Get row A or B and let it wash over you.”
