Introduction
People ask me all the time whether DCA is worth visiting. My answer is always the same: it depends on who is asking.
If you are a family with a 10-year-old who loves Marvel, a teenager who wants real thrill rides, or an adult who appreciates world-class food and Pixar storytelling — Disney California Adventure is not just worth visiting. It might be your favorite park of the two.
If you are traveling with toddlers under 4 whose world revolves around Fantasyland and meeting Mickey Mouse — Disneyland Park is where you want to spend the majority of your time.
DCA and Disneyland are side-by-side parks with completely different personalities. Disneyland is Walt’s original vision — nostalgic, layered with history, built for every age simultaneously. DCA is more thrill-forward, more food-focused, more Marvel and Pixar-centric, and in 2026 it is actively evolving with new construction that will fundamentally change the park’s scale over the next few years.
This guide covers everything you need to know about Disney California Adventure in 2026 — every land, every major attraction, the food scene that genuinely rivals Disneyland’s, the Lightning Lane strategy specific to DCA, the 2026 changes and construction updates, and a complete framework for deciding how to split your time between the two parks.
Note on Park Hopper: DCA requires either a separate ticket or a Park Hopper upgrade from your Disneyland ticket. A single-park ticket admits you to one park only. See our Park Hopper Strategy Guide for the combined two-park approach.
Part 1 — DCA in 2026 — What Is New and What Is Changing
The 70th Anniversary Celebration
Disneyland Resort is celebrating its 70th anniversary throughout 2026 with programming that extends into both parks. At DCA, the celebration includes World of Color: Happiness — the reimagined nighttime water and light spectacular at Paradise Bay — and the Paint the Night Parade, which returned to the resort for the anniversary and runs through Disney California Adventure on select nights.
This is the best version of DCA’s nighttime programming that has run in years. World of Color: Happiness is a genuine reason to be in the park after dark.
Soarin’ Returns to Soarin’ Over California
In February 2026, Soarin’ Around the World was updated back to its original California-focused film as Soarin’ Over California. The beloved original film — featuring the Golden Gate Bridge, Yosemite, Napa Valley, and the original Disneyland — returned to the Grizzly Peak theater. For guests who visited DCA in its early years, this is a nostalgic restoration. For first-timers, it is the best version of the ride.
San Fransokyo Square
The former Pacific Wharf dining area was reimagined as San Fransokyo Square — a Big Hero 6-themed neighborhood blending San Francisco and Tokyo aesthetics. The Lucky Cat Cafe and Aunt Cass Cafe anchor the food scene with Big Hero 6 theming throughout. Character meets with Baymax are available in the area.
San Fransokyo Square sits at the heart of the park along the main path and has become a reliable mid-day food stop for guests who want quick-service options without walking to Cars Land or Pixar Pier.
Avengers Campus Expansion — Under Construction
Two new attractions are currently under construction within the Avengers Campus expansion footprint. No confirmed opening dates have been announced for either attraction. The construction perimeter has reduced the walking flow through portions of Avengers Campus but the existing attractions — Guardians of the Galaxy and WEB-SLINGERS — remain fully operational.
For the latest construction status and projected opening windows, check the Disneyland app and official Disney park news.
Coco Ride — In Construction
The first-ever Coco-themed ride is coming to Disney California Adventure. Construction began in 2026 on a boat ride joining Miguel on a journey to the Land of the Dead, drawing Imagineering inspiration from Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean. No opening date has been confirmed as of May 2026. When it opens, it is likely to become one of the signature attractions in the park.
Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue — Temporarily Closed
Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue closed early in 2026. Check the Disneyland app for current status before planning your visit around this attraction.
Red Car Trolley — Closing
The Red Car Trolley, which ran along the Hollywood Land boulevard, is closing to make way for new construction related to the park’s expansion. Check current operating status in the app.
Part 2 — The Lands of Disney California Adventure
DCA is organized into eight distinct lands arrayed in a large loop from the park entrance. Understanding the layout before you arrive makes navigation significantly more efficient — DCA has fewer natural navigation anchors than Disneyland and first-time visitors frequently underestimate walking distances between lands.
Buena Vista Street
The entry land of DCA, themed to the Los Angeles that Walt Disney arrived in during the 1920s and 1930s. Art Deco architecture, vintage storefronts, the Carthay Circle Theatre at the far end, and the character atmosphere of early Hollywood form the visual introduction to the park.
Buena Vista Street is where you enter, where you exit, and where the park’s best gift shopping is concentrated. The Carthay Circle Restaurant — the fine dining anchor of DCA — sits at the top of Buena Vista Street overlooking the central plaza.
What to do here: Pick up a park map, browse the opening day atmosphere, and walk toward Carthay Circle for the best establishing views of the park’s central hub. Buena Vista Street has no rides — it is pure atmosphere and retail.
Hollywood Land
Hollywood Land recreates the golden age of Hollywood filmmaking with studio-lot architecture, entertainment stages, and character meet-and-greet opportunities. This land sits immediately to the left as you enter the park from Buena Vista Street.
Key attractions:
Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue — currently closed, check app
Animation Academy — free drawing classes led by Disney artists, one of the best underrated experiences in the park
Mickey’s PhilharMagic — 3D film experience featuring classic Disney songs with in-theater effects
Anna and Elsa Character Meet — one of the best opportunities at the resort to meet both Frozen sisters with a shorter relative wait
The Animation Academy: Mateo’s most emphatic DCA recommendation for every guest regardless of age. A Disney artist teaches you to draw a character step by step in 20 minutes. It is free with park admission, completely air conditioned, and consistently produces a drawing that adults are genuinely proud of. It is also the best mid-afternoon reset available at DCA on a hot day.
Avengers Campus
The newest completed land at DCA and the park’s equivalent of Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland — a complete immersive environment built around a specific intellectual property with its own in-world logic and atmosphere. Avengers Campus is where superheroes train new recruits, and the land operates with consistent in-universe storytelling maintained by cast members playing S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and Avengers.
The atmosphere is dense and reward-laden. Characters — Thor, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Captain America, Doctor Strange, and others — make appearances throughout the campus on irregular schedules. The appearances are unannounced, tend to be elaborate theatrical performances rather than standard meet-and-greets, and create some of the most dynamic character encounter moments at the entire resort.
Key attractions:
Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! (Multi Pass Lightning Lane)
WEB-SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure (Multi Pass Lightning Lane)
Construction note: Two new attractions are under construction within the Avengers Campus expansion. The footprint is active — some walkways have been modified. Check the app for current navigation routes through the land.
Mateo’s Take on Avengers Campus: Walk through it slowly. The Quinjet mounted on the building above Guardians. The buildings designed to look like they sustained superhero battle damage. The web fluid cartridges Spider-Man uses to swing through the campus. The equipment displays throughout. This land is engineered at the level of Galaxy’s Edge and most guests walk through it on the way to rides without ever looking up.
Cars Land
The most emotionally complete land at Disney California Adventure and the one that most consistently surprises guests who were not expecting it. Cars Land recreates Radiator Springs — the fictional Route 66 town from Pixar’s Cars — with such faithful detail that guests who love the film have the uncanny experience of walking into an animated movie.
The centerpiece is Radiator Springs Racers, the most popular attraction in the entire Disneyland Resort. But Cars Land is worth experiencing beyond the headline ride. Cozy Cone Motel’s cone-shaped food stands, Flo’s V8 Cafe, the neon signs at night along the main street, and the Cadillac Range buttes lit at sunset create an environment that is genuinely beautiful independent of any specific attraction.
Key attractions:
Radiator Springs Racers (Single Pass Lightning Lane — the most in-demand ride at the resort)
Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree (no height requirement, family spinner)
Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters (no height requirement, dance-themed car ride)
Cars Land at night: The neon sign lighting that activates along Radiator Springs main street after dark is one of the most photogenic environments at the entire Disneyland Resort. Route 66 neon at night, Cadillac Range silhouetted against the sky, the whole Cars Land main street lit the way the film depicted it — this is worth staying for regardless of whether you plan to ride anything in the land again.
Grizzly Peak
The outdoor recreation-themed land centered around a California wilderness setting with a river rapids attraction and an aerial hang gliding simulation. Grizzly Peak sits in the interior of the park between Cars Land and San Fransokyo Square.
Key attractions:
Soarin’ Over California (Multi Pass Lightning Lane) — the recently restored original California film
Grizzly River Run (Multi Pass Lightning Lane) — river rapids ride, you will get wet
Grizzly River Run: The most direct warning in this guide. Grizzly River Run is a water ride. You will not get slightly damp. You will get genuinely soaked. Ride it in the morning on a warm day when drying out during the rest of the visit is a reasonable prospect. Avoid it in the late afternoon if you have fireworks or any other evening plans where being wet is a problem. Locker rentals are available near the ride entrance for items you do not want wet.
Redwood Creek Challenge Trail: Adjacent to Grizzly River Run, this outdoor play area is one of the best spaces at either park for young children with energy to burn. Climbing structures, rope bridges, and exploration areas in a forested outdoor environment. No height requirement, no queue, no admission beyond park entry.
San Fransokyo Square
The reimagined former Pacific Wharf area, now themed to the blended San Francisco and Tokyo aesthetic of Big Hero 6. Located at the center of the park along the main path, San Fransokyo Square functions primarily as a dining hub with character entertainment woven into the environment.
Baymax character meets operate here. The Lucky Cat Cafe and Aunt Cass Cafe provide quick service dining. The area is not a ride land — it is an atmospheric dining and character destination that works well as a mid-park meal stop.
Pixar Pier
The Pixar-themed pier along the Paradise Bay waterfront, featuring attractions, food, and experiences organized around specific Pixar film properties. Pixar Pier is the area of DCA most overlooked by first-timers focused on Avengers Campus and Cars Land — and consistently one of the most rewarding sections of the park for families who spend time there.
Key attractions:
Incredicoaster (Multi Pass Lightning Lane) — the highest height requirement at the entire Disneyland Resort at 48 inches
Toy Story Midway Mania! (Multi Pass Lightning Lane) — interactive 4D game ride, no height requirement
Jessie’s Critter Carousel (no height requirement) — family carousel themed to Toy Story’s Jessie
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind (no height requirement) — gentle spinning ride through the emotions from Inside Out
Pixar Pal-A-Round (the Ferris wheel — choose non-swinging cars for families with young children)
Paradise Bay and World of Color: The central bay of the park is visible from Pixar Pier and is the stage for World of Color — the nighttime water, light, and projection spectacular that is one of the best after-dark shows at either park. Viewing areas fill early. Dining packages that include reserved World of Color seating are available and book 60 days out.
Mateo’s Take on Pixar Pier: This is the most underrated section of DCA for families. Toy Story Midway Mania is the interactive equivalent of Buzz Lightyear at Disneyland — genuinely competitive, highly rerideable, and accessible to every age. The boardwalk atmosphere is beautiful during the day and even better at night. Most guests walk past Pixar Pier on the way to Cars Land and miss one of the most complete family experiences in the park.
Paradise Gardens Park
The central park area adjacent to Paradise Bay, serving primarily as the World of Color viewing zone and a transition space between Pixar Pier and Hollywood Land. The garden environment here is among the most pleasant outdoor seating areas in either park — palm trees, bay views, and a relative quietness that makes it useful for afternoon rests.
Part 3 — DCA Rides — Complete List by Land
Avengers Campus
Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! Height: 40 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Thrill: High
The drop tower reimagining of the former Tower of Terror, now themed to the Guardians of the Galaxy. A music-driven freefall experience where the drop sequence is randomized across six different scenarios — each visit has a different pattern of drops, holds, and rises set to a specific Guardians soundtrack. The randomization gives it the best reride value of any thrill ride at DCA and makes each visit genuinely different.
The building exterior — the Collector’s Fortress — is one of the most visually impressive architectural statements at the Resort. The queue walkthrough past the Collector’s display cases is worth slowing down for. The actual drop experience is intense — sudden, unpredictable, and loud. Not a surprise given the height requirement, but worth preparing first-time riders who may not have experienced a drop tower before.
Mateo’s Take: Guardians is the best pure thrill ride at DCA and the one I prioritize at rope drop when I am not doing Radiator Springs first. The randomized music-drop combinations mean no two rides are identical. I have ridden this dozens of times and still get different versions. Buy Multi Pass for this at park open or rope drop it standby in the first 20 minutes.
WEB-SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure Height: None | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Thrill: Low-Medium
An interactive 4D ride where guests use hand gestures to shoot webs at targets throughout the experience — no physical controller required. The gesture-based mechanic is the ride’s signature innovation and it works better than most guests expect on their first attempt. The story follows Peter Parker’s technology running amok and needing web-slinging help from the whole boarding group.
Accessible to every age with no height requirement. Young children who have never heard of Spider-Man get the same gesture-shooting experience as dedicated Marvel fans who have seen every film. Lines build faster than most guests anticipate given the no-height-requirement accessibility — use Multi Pass or rope drop for the cleanest experience.
Cars Land
Radiator Springs Racers Height: 40 inches | Lightning Lane: Single Pass | Thrill: Medium
The most popular ride at the entire Disneyland Resort — not just DCA. Radiator Springs Racers is a dark ride and racing experience that takes guests through the story of the Cars film and into a head-to-head race against another vehicle on the track. The Cars Land environment you see from the ride vehicle is the same environment you walk through in the land — the immersive consistency of the theming, from the queue through the Ornament Valley canyon scenery to the race finish, is extraordinary.
The Individual Lightning Lane Single Pass pricing for Radiator Springs Racers runs $15 to $35 per person depending on demand. On peak days it sells out before 9am — the same behavior as Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland Park. Buy it as the first action of your morning or rope drop directly to Cars Land at park open for the best standby window.
Mateo’s Take: Radiator Springs Racers is the Indiana Jones of DCA — the ride the whole day gets organized around. The standby wait at rope drop runs 20 to 30 minutes. By 10am it is 75 to 90 minutes on a busy day. Single Pass is strongly recommended for anyone who values their morning time. The Cars Land scenery from the ride vehicle at sunset is one of the most beautiful environments visible from any ride at the Resort.
Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree Height: None | Lightning Lane: None | Thrill: Low
A spinning tow-cable ride themed to Mater’s square dancing, with baby tractors pulling spinning trailers through a junkyard pattern while country music plays. It is exactly what it sounds like and young children adore it completely. Short waits most of the day, no Lightning Lane needed, and the gentle spinning is appropriate for most toddlers.
Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters Height: None | Lightning Lane: None | Thrill: Low
Dance-themed cars that move in choreographed patterns to Italian music. The movement pattern of your car changes daily — each visit is different. Young children find the vehicles charming and the motion is gentle enough for most riders. No Lightning Lane, short to moderate waits throughout the day.

Soarin’ Over California Height: 40 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Thrill: Low
A hang gliding simulation that lifts guests above a large wraparound screen showing aerial footage of California landmarks — the Golden Gate Bridge, Yosemite Valley, Napa Valley, Redwood forests, the original Disneyland, the Pacific Coast. Scents corresponding to each location — orange blossoms over citrus groves, pine over the Sierras, salt water over the Pacific — are pumped into the theater at matching moments. The experience is uniquely multi-sensory and reliably produces an emotional response in guests who love California.
Returned to the original California film in February 2026 after several years as Soarin’ Around the World. The California version is the preferred version for most guests who experienced both — the original footage has a personal quality that the global version lacked.
Book Multi Pass early. Soarin’ has one of the most consistent multi-hour standby waits at DCA across all crowd levels. The theater capacity is high but the demand is higher. Multi Pass or rope drop are the reliable approaches.
Grizzly River Run Height: 42 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Thrill: Medium-High
A circular raft rapids ride through a simulated California wilderness with drops, rapids, and geysers. Eight riders per raft. The ride is unpredictable about who gets soaked most — the raft rotates throughout the experience, meaning where you are sitting at the start is rarely where you are sitting at the wet moments. Everyone in the raft gets some water. At least one or two riders typically get thoroughly soaked on any given run.
This is a genuinely excellent ride on a hot Anaheim day and a miscalculation the rest of the time. Ride in the morning, accept that you will be wet, and plan the rest of your day accordingly. Lockers near the entrance are available for valuables.
Pixar Pier
Incredicoaster Height: 48 inches | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Thrill: High
The highest height requirement at the entire Disneyland Resort — 48 inches. A launched roller coaster themed to The Incredibles, running along the outside of the Pixar Pier boardwalk at high speed with multiple hills and a loop over Paradise Bay. The outdoor setting, the bay views at speed, and the Incredibles soundtrack make this more atmospherically engaging than an enclosed coaster like Space Mountain.
The 48-inch height requirement screens out more children than any other ride at the Resort. A child who is 46 inches and rides everything at Disneyland including Indiana Jones still cannot ride Incredicoaster. Manage expectations before the trip for families with children in the 44 to 47-inch range.
Toy Story Midway Mania! Height: None | Lightning Lane: Multi Pass | Thrill: Low
A 4D interactive game ride where guests use spring-action cannons to shoot targets in a series of Toy Story-themed carnival games. Every target hit scores points, the games vary across the ride, and the competitive element between riders is instant and addictive. No height requirement, no minimum age, and the scoring system keeps every rider — from 3-year-olds to adults — equally engaged.
Consistently one of the most popular attractions at DCA regardless of crowd level. Multi Pass or early morning are the reliable approaches.
Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind Height: None | Lightning Lane: None | Thrill: Low
A gentle spinning ride through the colorful emotional world of the Inside Out film, themed to specific emotions. Low thrill, beautiful visual design, and no height requirement make it a reliable family attraction. Moderate waits throughout the day.
Jessie’s Critter Carousel Height: None | Lightning Lane: None | Thrill: Low
A Toy Story-themed carousel featuring critters from Jessie’s collection as the ride animals — lizards, hedgehogs, and desert creatures rather than horses. Charming for young children. Walk-on most of the day.
Pixar Pal-A-Round Height: None | Lightning Lane: None | Thrill: Low (non-swinging) to Medium (swinging)
The large ferris wheel visible from most of the park. Gondola cars come in two versions — non-swinging (recommended for families with young children and guests sensitive to motion) and swinging (gondolas slide back and forth as the wheel turns, creating an unpredictable rocking motion). The view from the top encompasses the entire DCA park and extends toward the Matterhorn and Sleeping Beauty Castle visible above the Resort berm. Moderate waits throughout the day.
Part 4 — DCA Food Guide Overview
DCA has the strongest food scene of any Disney park in California and it is not particularly close. The combination of Cars Land, San Fransokyo Square, the DCA Food and Wine Festival dining, and Pixar Pier creates a park-wide food culture that Disneyland Park simply does not match in breadth.
Must-Eat at DCA
Flo’s V8 Cafe — Cars Land The primary table service restaurant in Cars Land. The diner menu features burgers, sandwiches, and classic American road food in a beautifully themed 1950s auto shop and diner environment. The Cars Land surroundings visible from the dining room windows make this one of the most atmospherically complete quick-service experiences at the Resort.
Cozy Cone Motel — Cars Land The cone-shaped food stands around the parking lot of the Cozy Cone offer some of the most unique quick-service items at DCA — the chili cone queso, the churro toffee popcorn cone, and seasonal specialty drinks. Each cone stand has a different menu. Walk the whole loop before choosing.
Lamplight Lounge — Pixar Pier A full-service bar and restaurant with excellent views over Paradise Bay and the Pixar Pier boardwalk. The best casual dining option at DCA with a menu that genuinely earns attention — loaded tots, lobster nachos, cast iron desserts. Happy hour pricing runs in the late afternoon for the bar program. Book 60 days out for dining near World of Color show time.
Carthay Circle Restaurant — Buena Vista Street The fine dining anchor of DCA inside the recreated Carthay Circle Theatre building. Elevated California cuisine with the best cocktail program in either park. The lounge level offers a more accessible bar menu without requiring a full dining reservation. Book 60 days out. Best for adults and couples.
Lucky Cat Cafe — San Fransokyo Square The primary quick-service option in San Fransokyo Square with Big Hero 6 theming and a menu that leans Asian-influenced — bao, noodle bowls, and rice dishes. Reliable and consistently less crowded than the Cars Land options at peak dining hours.
The DCA Food and Wine Festival (March through April) The Festival of Flavors runs annually from early March through late April at DCA and transforms the park’s food scene into its peak expression. Booths throughout the park offer small-plate tasting portions of globally inspired dishes, festival-specific cocktails and mocktails, and specialty merchandise. For food-focused visitors, scheduling a DCA visit during the Festival window is worth specifically planning around.
DCA Dining vs Disneyland Dining — Mateo’s Take
The Blue Bayou is still the finest single restaurant experience at the Disneyland Resort. The Monte Cristo sandwich at Cafe Orleans is still the best single food item. But as a park-wide food ecosystem, DCA is more interesting, more varied, and more intentionally food-forward than Disneyland Park. The Lamplight Lounge alone is worth the Park Hopper add-on for adults who care about food. If you are a serious eater visiting the Resort, spend meaningful time at DCA’s dining options.
Part 5 — Lightning Lane Strategy for DCA
The Single Pass Ride at DCA
Radiator Springs Racers is the only Lightning Lane Single Pass attraction at Disney California Adventure in 2026. It is the DCA equivalent of Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland Park.
Purchase Radiator Springs Racers Single Pass as your first action upon entering DCA. On peak days it sells out before 9am. On moderate days it is typically available through mid-morning but return windows push to afternoon quickly. Buy it early regardless of crowd level.
Single Pass pricing: $15 to $35 per person depending on demand.
Multi Pass Priority Order for DCA
When purchasing Lightning Lane Multi Pass for a DCA day, book in this general priority sequence:
Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT! — builds fastest after rope drop, highest demand Multi Pass attraction
Soarin’ Over California — consistently long waits all day, Multi Pass dramatically improves access
Toy Story Midway Mania! — popular all day, Multi Pass useful especially on peak days
WEB-SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure — moderate demand, Multi Pass helpful on busy days
Incredicoaster — strong demand, Multi Pass useful for guests who meet the height requirement
Grizzly River Run — afternoon waits build significantly on hot days, Multi Pass useful
The Tap-In Rule Applies at DCA Too
Same principle as Disneyland Park — book your next Multi Pass attraction the moment you tap into the Lightning Lane entrance, not when you exit. The next booking unlocks at tap-in. Do not wait until after the ride.
Part 6 — DCA Morning Strategy — Rope Drop
DCA’s rope drop is meaningfully different from Disneyland’s and most guests who know Disneyland strategy incorrectly apply the same logic.
Where to Go First
Option 1 — Cars Land (Radiator Springs Racers) Walk directly to Cars Land at park open. The standby queue for Radiator Springs Racers at rope drop runs 20 to 30 minutes — the lowest it will be all day. The beautiful Cars Land environment in the early morning before crowds arrive is genuinely worth the walk regardless of the ride. Follow Radiator Springs Racers with Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree and Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters while you are in the land.
Option 2 — Avengers Campus (Guardians of the Galaxy) If Guardians is your priority and you have already purchased Single Pass for Radiator Springs Racers, walk to Avengers Campus at rope drop for Guardians standby. The 20 to 30-minute rope drop window gives you a reasonable standby wait before the line builds through the morning.
Mateo’s Take: My default DCA morning is Cars Land first — standby for Radiator Springs Racers at rope drop, then use my Single Pass later in the morning for a second ride or if the standby was longer than expected. Guardians gets Multi Pass for a mid-morning return. Soarin’ gets Multi Pass for late morning or early afternoon.
The Park Hopper Morning Option
With the 2026 Park Hopper rule change allowing free movement between parks all day, some guests rope drop Radiator Springs Racers at DCA before switching to Disneyland Park for the middle of the day and returning to DCA in the evening for World of Color.
This is a legitimate strategy for guests with Park Hopper tickets and strong physical stamina. The walking distance between parks via the Esplanade is approximately five minutes. The strategy works best for adults and older children — families with young children typically find the park switching logistically demanding.
Part 7 — Seasonal Events at DCA
Lunar New Year — Late January through Mid-February
Festive decorations, traditional performances, specialty food, and character appearances celebrating the Lunar New Year. The food booths that run during Lunar New Year are among the most popular limited-time offerings at DCA annually. Mickey, Minnie, and friends appear in Lunar New Year costumes for character meets.
DCA Food and Wine Festival — March through Late April
The festival that best showcases DCA’s food identity. Booths throughout the park serve globally inspired tasting portions and specialty beverages. The festival transforms the park’s mid-section into an outdoor food market with live entertainment and demonstrations woven throughout. For food-focused guests, this is the single best time to visit DCA. Included with park admission.
Oogie Boogie Bash — Select Nights, September through October
A separately ticketed evening event at DCA running select nights through the fall season. Villain-themed trick-or-treat trails, exclusive character meets with Disney villains, special entertainment, and themed food and merchandise. Oogie Boogie Bash tickets sell out months in advance — purchase the moment they go on general sale. Regular day guests are not admitted in the evening on Bash nights — the park transitions to the event.
Disney Festival of Holidays — Mid-November through Early January
Holiday overlays throughout DCA including festive food marketplaces, international holiday celebrations, and World of Color seasonal editions. The DCA holiday atmosphere is distinct from Disneyland’s Christmas overlay — less traditional, more multicultural, and organized around the spirit of the season.
Part 8 — DCA for Different Guest Types
For Families with Young Children
DCA has excellent content for young children but Disneyland Park has more of it. If traveling with children primarily under 6, plan to spend the majority of time at Disneyland Park and use DCA for a half-day with specific targets.
Best DCA experiences for young children: Toy Story Midway Mania, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind, Jessie’s Critter Carousel, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail, Animation Academy, and character meets in Hollywood Land and Avengers Campus.
Height note: Incredicoaster requires 48 inches — the highest requirement at the Resort. Many children who can ride everything at Disneyland Park cannot ride Incredicoaster.
See our complete DCA for Toddlers and Young Children guide for the full breakdown.
For Teenagers and Thrill Seekers
DCA is the stronger park for teenagers. The lineup of Guardians, Incredicoaster, Grizzly River Run, and Radiator Springs Racers — combined with the Marvel character experiences in Avengers Campus — delivers a more thrill-forward day than Disneyland Park can offer to the same age group.
Teenagers who are Marvel fans specifically should prioritize Avengers Campus with time built in for the spontaneous character performances that are unique to this land.
For Adults and Couples
DCA’s food scene, Lamplight Lounge, Carthay Circle Restaurant, the Wine and Spirits marketplace during festival season, and World of Color make it the stronger adult park experience of the two. A couple spending an evening at DCA — Lamplight Lounge for happy hour, Cars Land at golden hour, Radiator Springs Racers on Single Pass, World of Color for the finale — is having a near-perfect DCA day with no early morning required.
Part 9 — Practical DCA Information
Park Entry
DCA has two entry points. The main entrance is through the Esplanade adjacent to Disneyland Park. The private secondary entrance is available to guests staying at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Pixar Place Hotel — an exclusive door that opens directly from the hotel grounds into the park near Grizzly Peak.
Parking
DCA shares the Disneyland Resort parking structure with Disneyland Park. The Mickey and Friends structure is the primary lot. Harbor Boulevard hotel lots offer a cheaper and often faster alternative. See our Disneyland Hotel Guide for parking strategy details.
Getting Between Parks
Walking from one park to the other through the Esplanade takes approximately five minutes. Both park main entrances face the Esplanade plaza between them. Park Hopper guests scan into the second park at any time of day with no restrictions under the 2026 rule change.
Current Closures and Construction
As of May 2026: Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue is closed. The Red Car Trolley is closing. Avengers Campus expansion construction is active. Coco ride construction is underway. Always check the Disneyland app for current operating status before your visit.

Disneyland vs DCA — Which Park Is Right for You?
Both parks are extraordinary. They have completely different strengths and the right choice depends entirely on your group.
For the complete comparison of both parks across rides, food, atmosphere, and guest type recommendations, see our full Disneyland vs Disney California Adventure comparison guide.
Park Hopper
Most guests spending two or more days at the Disneyland Resort add a Park Hopper ticket to experience both parks. With the 2026 rule change removing all time-of-day restrictions, Park Hopper is more flexible than it has ever been.
See our Park Hopper Strategy Guide for the complete two-park approach including the optimal sequence for experiencing both parks in a single day.
